The VHS, DVD, Bluray and HDD Recorder Combi Arrives From JVC

Ever thought about being able to play just about every type of media you own on one box, without having a room full of cables, about 4 different devices, remembering which cable goes where and just about breaking your back to achieve such a feat? Perhaps not but the answer to the unasked question is probably held within the most unlikely combination, the DR-BH2550, a device for playing and recording VHS, DVD, Blu-Ray and HDD. Who came up with this idea? JVC, and where can you get it? well that should be obvious, the tech mad (quite literally in this case) Japan. Released in December 2009 not only does it have all that, it also has a 250 GB hard drive.

Technical Details

  • Supporting photograms of 1080, 60 and 24 pixels.
  • BD-Live for Blu-Ray interactive applications.
  • Bonusview, for Blu-Ray extras materials.
  • Support for Sony’s AVCHD.
  • USB ports and one slot for an SD Card or an SDHC Card.
  • HDMI.

What about the price then? well you can have all this for a mere snip at $1400, perhaps it may well be cheaper just to get your videos transferred professionally

2 years ago, we were commenting on how high street shops would latch onto this whole ‘combo’ idea and to a certain degree they have. There are several TV/DVD combis and TV/Blu-Ray as well. Most modern Blu-Ray players will play DVDs (and in some cases upscale to near Blu-Ray quality) all for a very reasonable price. For the tech crazy person however, with all these combinations, you can dig out your old wedding video or even transfer the embarrassing video of your naked 2 year old in the bath onto DVD or Blu-Ray just in time for their 18th Birthday surprise party. Something which I’m sure you will be thanked for immensely.
