Introducing the BDR-205 From Pioneer, The fastest Bluray Writer Yet

It’s still uncertain whether people are rushing out and buying bluray writers yet, regardless of that though Pioneer have release the fastest BD Writer so far, the Pioneer BDR-205
.

It is capable of 12 speed despite the fact that 12x certified discs are yet to be made. During testing, full speeds were maintained on single layer and dual layer with 6x Sony and Panasonic BD-R discs but Pioneer can’t promise that these speeds will be maintained on all manufacturers. It is almost a forgone conclusion that this release will see the prices fall for the regular BD writers out there which will hopefully see the interest in these devices start to increase.

A standalone version BD-2205 will set you back $250 (yes I know it’s Dollars but everything comes out first in the States right?) Which isn’t a bad price considering? As the price continues to go down as it inevitably will with improvements in the technology all the time, surely we’ll see bluray replace the DVD as the drive of choice for Notebooks and Desktops alike, bluray notebooks are starting to emerge at very competitive prices. Could this be a further nail in the coffin for the DVD Player?

Having said all that though by the time the Pioneer BDR-205 and other bluray writers take over, will bluray and DVD be necessary anyway, with cheap hard drives, high capacity flash drives, SD Cards and the ability to download just about anything from anywhere these days, do we really need a heavy bulky piece of hardware in our laptops and desktops adding unnecessary weight and using up unnecessary space when other, much lighter media will suffice? Could it actually be possible that both DVD and Bluray have their cards marked?
