First, when you record on the HDD you can deselect video mode and watch something different on the TV (utilizing the TV tuner). According to some the dvd play back picture/ sound are fantastic and the menus are fairly easy to navigate through. There is an option for software updates so expect some imrpovments and additional features to be added in the future.
