3D TV – A new way of looking at things

Another new category for the increasingly inacurately titled Hard Drive DVD Recorder Tech News, 3D TV. As more of these machines become available, the more competativley priced they are becoming.

What is it then?

3D is based on the principle of stereoscopy, which creates the illusion of depth in an image. The easiest way to enhance depth perception in the brain is to provide the eyes of the viewer with two different images, representing two perspectives of the same object, with a minor deviation exactly equal to the perspectives that both eyes naturally receive in binocular vision. There are currently three kinds of 3D technology on the market and each one works differently, anaglyph technology, polarized (or passive) technology and active technology

So this is a brand new idea right?

Not at all, 3D has been around for around 30 years with 3D films such as Jaws 3D being made in the 80s but it’s popularity died out during the 90s.

What is it’s future?

It looks like the 2nd wave of 3D popularity is here to stay and is properly supported in terms of hardare not to mention it’s becoming more and more affordable. The next stage of development will be 3D without the need for 3D Glasses however this technology is niether complete or affordable at this stage.
